Living room is surprisingly nice and big. That stuff isn't ours.
Dining room. That stuff isn't ours, either. The big mirror, built into some textured wooden panel thing, will be replaced with an open kitchen / bar.
The kitchen. We'll get rid of the door on the right (why do Hong Kongers insist on closing their kitchens in like closets?) as well as the wall to the left, which leads to the dining room. The one window here was blocked up because, you know, who likes sunshine?
I pity the amah who must have lived here, as this was the worst-kept room in the house, and was right off the kitchen (where the amah belongs?) We'll turn it into a laundry / storage room
Some girls dream of giant wedding dresses. I dreamt I'd have my own library with an old wooden desk, stuffed leather chair in the corner and book-lined walls. But I don't think even my best efforts will turn this office into a Bodleian reading room.
The bedroom.
An inexplicable number of doors, low false ceiling and a single naked bulb conspire to make the hallway more cramped looking than it has to be.
This rainbow-hued bunk bed / storage thingie took up literally all the space of the kid's room except for a one-foot border around it. I liked the Winnie the Pooh detailing on the wall, but we will get rid of all of it.
When agents say "developing area," "new area" or "gentrifying area," they mean "one big construction site." This -- the view, or lack thereof, out the bedroom window -- is one reason we bought for a relatively low price. I just hope the piledriving will be over when we move in.
